Reporting To : Head of GC&C India (with matrix reporting to Regional Head of LOB, Asia)

Position Overview:
We are seeking an accomplished and strategic Assistant Vice President – Engineering for our Global Corporate & Commercial (GC&C) division. This leadership role involves developing and executing the Line of Business (LOB) underwriting strategy for the Engineering portfolio in India, ensuring profitable portfolio management aligned with global and regional guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
1. LOB Strategy & Execution
Develop and implement Engineering LOB underwriting strategy in line with global/regional GC&C directives.
Drive structured portfolio management aligned with risk appetite, capital requirements, and technical guidelines.
Execute market-facing underwriting activities to support profitable growth.
2. Underwriting Performance & P&L Accountability
Achieve portfolio targets including GWP (Gross Written Premium), NTR (Net Technical Result), and profitability goals.
Lead business development initiatives, manage broker and client relationships, and ensure alignment with GC&C LOB strategy.
Identify corrective actions and re-underwriting strategies where required.
3. Underwriting Excellence
Ensure adherence to underwriting guidelines and governance frameworks.
Monitor technical KPIs, premium adequacy, and data quality across the portfolio.
Drive adoption of underwriting tools and ensure exposure and CAT modeling processes are in place.
4. Underwriting Governance & Compliance
Implement governance frameworks (e.g., UQA, TUR, accumulation control).
Maintain compliance with internal and external regulations and audit requirements.
Manage underwriting authority delegations and coordinate with Audit, Finance, and Actuarial teams as needed.
5. Team Leadership & Development
Lead, mentor, and build a high-performing underwriting team.
Promote knowledge sharing, technical skill development, and succession planning.
Foster a collaborative and performance-driven team culture.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education :
Graduate/Postgraduate (preferably in Engineering)
Professional insurance qualifications (e.g., AIII, FIII, ACII, CPCU) preferred
Experience :
10+ years of relevant experience in the general insurance industry
Proven track record in underwriting and managing profitable Engineering LOB portfolios
Experience in a leadership role with exposure to international business and cross-cultural environments
Skills :
In-depth knowledge of Engineering LOB and portfolio management
Strong risk assessment and pricing capabilities
Excellent stakeholder management, influencing, and communication skills
Analytical mindset with high attention to data quality and process improvement
Team building and leadership skills with a focus on coaching and development
Proficiency in English (additional languages are a plus)
Willingness to travel as required
